Goodbye maestro ‘spell-check’

Imagine having a basketball coach who stops practice every time you miss a shot and points out to you and your teammates - “you missed the basket.” You’d probably think “uh, duh!” and seek a new coach very quickly. How do you ever become a better player if your coach only points out mistakes without knowing how to help you improve your skills? Yet, how many conductors get by simply pointing out the obvious wrong note, wrong rhythm or wrong pitch - and be done with it! This ‘stop and point out mistakes’ type of conductor is passé.

The modern conductor needs to do more than “spell-check.”
